Hello Lumia Island Survivors!

From the Masters Season 10 Finals in Daejeon to the recent 2026 Asia Esports Tournament in Jinju, we would like to sincerely thank you for your immense interest in Eternal Return Esports.


Starting from Season 11, we are opening a new chapter. This season brings significant changes: a complete overhaul of the Eternal Return Masters, the grand opening of the Korea Esports League (KEL), and a shift in how we operate across the Asia region.


§ New Masters and the Arrival of ‘Super Masters’

The Eternal Return Masters is a prestigious stage for our players. While players competing in the 2026 KEL will no longer participate in the Masters, we expect new challengers to rise and fill that void.

Moving forward, we will distinguish between the standard "Masters" (held during KEL seasons) and the larger-scale "Super Masters" (held during KEL off-seasons). These two tournament types will offer different vibes, varying in phase operations and the number of teams advancing to the Season Finals.

The Masters will now be more of a "Challenger's Arena." Phases will be shortened from 2 weeks to 1 week, but will occur three times per season. To keep the competition fierce, we are introducing 4 "Contender Seeds" for the qualifiers. These seeds are reserved for invited promotional teams or teams with outstanding performance in other competitive events.

  • The Upper Bracket consists of 4 groups. The Top 4 teams from each group advance directly to the Main Stage.

  • The Bottom 4 teams from each group drop to the Lower Bracket for a second chance.

  • The Lower Bracket consists of 4 groups. The Top 2 teams from each group advance to the Main Stage.


The Masters Qualifiers will consist of two events of four rounds each, divided into an Upper Bracket and a Lower Bracket, with the Upper Bracket matches taking place first. Initially, 32 teams, including the Contender Seed teams, will compete in the Upper Bracket Qualifiers. From this group, 16 teams will advance to the Main Stage, while the remaining 16 teams will drop to the Lower Bracket. In the Lower Bracket Qualifiers, these 16 dropped teams will face off against the 16 lowest-rated teams. Out of these 32 teams, only 8 will secure a spot in the Main Stage. As the Lower Bracket functions as a "last chance" redemption round, only the most competitive teams will survive to move forward.

Once you advance to the Main Stage, your starting stage will vary based on your performance in the Qualifiers. Teams that secure 1st or 2nd place in the Upper Bracket Qualifiers will skip Day 1 and proceed directly to the Semifinals on Day 2. The remaining 16 teams will start from the Quarterfinals on Day 1. As with previous knockout stages, teams that finish in the top 4 advance to the next round, while those who don’t are eliminated. While the Qualifiers offer two chances, the Main Stage is a single-elimination format, so every team must stay sharp from the moment they step onto the Main Stage.

Teams that survive until the Finals can earn Circuit Points based on their ranking. Through three phases, the top 7 teams with the most Circuit Points will directly qualify for the Season Finals, while the final spot will be filled through the LCQ. These 8 teams will then compete in a one-day Season Final for the championship trophy.

 
With so many new elements added to the Masters, it will be exciting to see what new superstars emerge in the first season. Since the Masters is an open tournament, any of you could be the one to lift the trophy. Why not give it a shot?


§ New Checkpoint System: Sequential Checkpoint

The Checkpoint rule has always been a core part of the excitement in Eternal Return Esports, creating moments where teams strive for victory even when immediate points might not seem helpful. We want to maintain the thrill of the "Final Survival" deciding the winner while increasing the importance of scoring in the process, encouraging trailing teams to consider more strategic factors.


Therefore, starting this season, we are officially applying a new Checkpoint method to our esports tournaments. Previously introduced during pilot matches as the "Sequential Checkpoint" system, this method differs from the traditional point-based system in the following ways:


  • Checkpoint criteria changes from "Points" (absolute evaluation) to "Rank" (relative evaluation).

  • Checkpoints are not permanent; if a team’s rank drops, their Checkpoint status is removed.

  • The number of Checkpoint teams increases as rounds progress, with a maximum of 9 rounds. Please refer to the table below for criteria by round.

The reasoning behind this structure is as follows:

  • Generally, Checkpoint formats are used for Finals or similar stages. Ending a match too early can be disappointing for both viewers and players who didn't get to show their full potential. This system aims to guarantee a minimum number of rounds.

  • Granting Checkpoints to the top 2 teams (instead of just 1st place) starting in Round 5 reflects player feedback that having another team with a Checkpoint increases the likelihood of concluding the match in that round. We believe this is fair given the advantages, such as weather selection rights, held by the top team.

  • Granting Checkpoints to the top 7 teams in Round 8 and all teams in Round 9 serves to set a definitive end point. For a team at the bottom of the rankings to win, they would need to achieve Final Survival in both Round 8 and Round 9 consecutively. We believe such a performance would make them a deserving champion regardless of their early standing.

While this may be unfamiliar to fans used to point-based Checkpoints, the flow of the match should be even smoother. Additionally, limiting the matches to a maximum of 9 rounds provides operational benefits and allows for more diverse strategic attempts. We look forward to your interest in the new tactics and plays that will emerge.


§ Asia Esports Overhaul

Recently, players from various regions showcased their skills at the 2026 Asia Esports Tournament in Jinju. While the wall of the highly competitive Korean region remains high, representatives from each region left a strong impression by giving their all. To support this momentum, we want to give more "wings" to Asia Esports.

Although the Eternal Return Masters was open to all Asian players, it was realistically difficult for non-Korean players to reach the Main Stage. While we had regional tournaments like the JAPAN CUP, their once-per-season frequency was insufficient for top-tier local players to build experience. Therefore, to strengthen regional communities, we will support regional tournaments based on the Asia 1–3 servers.

The three regional tournaments will be held on the same dates, making duplicate participation impossible. Initially, they will all use the same format as the previous JAPAN CUP: 16 teams compete in Semifinals, with the top 4 from each group advancing to the Finals. We remain open to expanding the scale or changing the structure based on the activity levels of each region. We hope players across Asia 1–3 show off their skills in these new tournaments.


Teams that compete in these regions will now have the chance to face each other online. In the newly established Lumia Rivals Cup: ASIA, top-performing teams from regional tournaments and standout teams from the integrated Asia Masters will compete.

Season 11 is a new challenge for us, but we believe it will deliver special and unforgettable moments. We plan to make various attempts to unite different regions through Eternal Return, and we look forward to expanding these efforts from Asia to North America, Europe, and beyond.
